Allison Transmissions for Dakar Rally
Description
The Dakar rally is well known for its tough conditions. A few years ago, DLS was asked to deliver a 4500 series Allison Transmission to the first team as a pilot. Until then, most vehicles used a manual or automated manual transmission. DLS had to calibrate special racing software for this experiment. Despite the challenging environment in which the transmission had to perform, the pilot was a great success.
It prompted many other teams to purchase an Allison Transmission that can cope with the rough terrain and desert. All the teams claim better results in terms of vehicle control, driving comfort and the ability to focus on the terrain and not on the right moment to shift gear.In the rally of 2019 there finished 5 teams in the top 10 with an Allison Transmission. For 4 of them, DLS delivered the drive line engineering and fully automatic Allison Transmission.

This high quality means that a fourth Dutch team has chosen to drive with an Allison Transmission. Teams already equipped with an Allison are:
- Ginaf with DAF truck (3 pieces)
- VEKA with MAN trucks (4 pieces)
- Dakar De Rooy (7 pieces, with retarder)
- Frank Tilburgs (1 piece)
