From Stage II to Stage V with emission technology

Emission requirements for construction machinery are becoming more strict, especially for the emissions of soot and nitrogen (NOX). Reason for Kraanbedrijf Nederhoff to look at possibilities to make their existing machinery more sustainable.

For an upcoming project, the emissions of a Liebherr LR1100 crane, equipped with a Stage II engine, had to be reduced to Stage V level. Taking the application into account, DLS technicians and engineers looked for a fitting solution: a retrofit SCRT system in which soot particles are collected by a soot filter and an SCR catalyst converts NOX into non-harmful substances. Because a sufficiently high temperature is not always achieved when the crane is in operation, the system also contains an electric heating element. In order to maintain as much temperature as possible, the system is fully insulated.

Last June, the crane was fitted with the exhaust after-treatment system. The system functions independently of the engine management and is controlled by ACU (Aftertreatment Control Unit) in combination with newly installed sensors. Based on measurements of these sensors the ACU determines the injection amount of AdBlue and the control of the heating element. All information is tracked realtime by the built-in telematics module. You can remotely see where the crane is located and what the current data is.
