Bus Challenge
Drive to the Future
The Bus Challenge project revolves around making an old double-decker bus more sustainable in order to lengthen its lifetime. The project challenges students to replace bus’s existing diesel engine and drive system with a zero emission electric drive system.
In addition to the sustainability goal, a second goal secondary and technical vocational education student enthusiastic about the possibilities in the automotive market.
After the summer, students in intermediate and higher vocational education will work together in multiple project teams to realize the project. The students will work on removing the current combustion engine in order to eventually be able to electrify the bus. For this, the students must also obtain their NEN9140 certification (working safely on electric vehicles).
The project is a collaboration of multiple parties. Recruit a Student is the client and owner of the bus. De Uitvindfabriek is the contractor and is responsible for the realization of the project. Educational institutions Curio and Avans Hogeschool put together the student teams that will work on the project. DLS and Bluekens Truck and Bus are involved in the project as knowledge partners. They provide the students with technical and practical coaching based on their expertise in zero emission drive systems and vehicles. Bluekens is the point of contact for the implementation work and DLS offers students assistance in the design process and the process of work preparation and material selection.
