Strong in sustainability
Family business Sterk-Heukelum works in the civil engineering sector and has specialized in contracting and carrying out civil engineering works, and the rental of earth-moving equipment.
Environmental savings is a key objective within the company and at Sterk-Heukelum they are always looking for environmentally friendly measures for energy savings, efficient use of materials and sustainable energy.
The company has a 2015 CAT excavator equipped with Stage IIIB diesel engine. This diesel engine already has a factory installed sooth filter, but has little technology available for nitrogen reduction. However, the machine has few operating hours and is still doing an excellent job. This makes the machine very suitable for retrofit and replacing this machine is therefore not a sustainable solution.
Instead of replacement, Sterk-Heukelum chose to have DLS equip the excavator with an SCR-system from HJS Emission Technology. The SCR-system injects AdBlue, which mixes with the exhaust gases. Subsequently the SCR-catalyst converts nitrogen (NOX) into non-hazardous substances through a chemical process.
